The History of Krieghoff

Krieghoff began in 1886 as a gunsmith's workshop in the Thuringian town of Suhl, Germany. Founded by Ludwig Krieghoff and his business partner, it was originally named Sempert & Krieghoff. From the beginning, the company's focus was on making hunting rifles but they were soon sidetracked by the advent of World War 1 when the production switched to weapons of war. After the war, the general chaos and hyperinflation caused the arms industry in Suhl to suffer greatly with many arms manufacturers going bankrupt. By winning a huge order from the Netherlands, Krieghoff was able to avoid the same fate and even managed to expand its production by acquiring many machines from one of the bankrupt companies. In 1919 Ludwig Krieghoff sold "Sempert & Krieghoff" to his son Heinrich Krieghoff who had opened his own weapons company a few years prior, and the two companies merged under Heinrich's direction. By the early 1930s, the company employed 150 workers and specialized in making hunting rifles and triple barrel drilling rifles. Because of this, the number of Krieghoff workers sharply increased in the time leading up to the war and especially in wartime, so that in 1944 they employed around 6000 workers. But all this growth soon vanished into thin air when the Russians seized Suhl, dismantled the manufacturing facility and blew it up.

Thus, the Krieghoff family had to start their business from scratch. They fled to Heidenheim near Ulm, a city in what would soon become West Germany, where they opened a new factory. Because of the strict weapons regulations imposed on their nation, they were at first limited to producing only air rifles, but in 1954 they could go back to producing hunting rifles and drillings. However, they did not stop there and soon expanded into the competition shotgun market by employing the original Remington Model 32 core design and building a Krieghoff rifle for clay target shooting, the K-32. This rifle and its successor, K-80, have been a great success for Krieghoff. In 1986, Krieghoff International was founded by Dieter Friedhoff in Pennsylvania, USA, Krieghoff's only location outside of Europe.

Krieghoff Semprio (Before 2013) Rifle Review

Krieghoff introduced the Semprio Repeating Rifle, a mixture of practicality and innovation, in 2007. Semprio is a special, "inline repeating" rifle, operated by pushing the whole front assembly forward to release the seven locking lugs and eject an empty cartridge case. While this repeating system is quite loud, it allows the user to keep his grip and stay on target, which is especially beneficial on driven hunts.

Semprio underwent a reshaping of the mounting surface in 2013. Rifles produced between 2007 and 2013 feature four holes for mounting purposes that are combined with a tip-off mounting surface. The holes were revoked on all the rifles produced from 2013 onward; therefore, the newer versions come with tip-off grooves and two recoil notches.

You can read more about the new version of Semprio in our review by clicking on the link below:

The rifle can be taken apart without the use of any tools and can therefore be easily packed and modified. It is compatible with a variety of barrels and bolts which are easy to mount and interchange with the other components. This makes Semprio a fully modular hunting rifle capable of being converted to other calibers even during the hunt. The rifle features a detachable box magazine – with a 4+1 capacity in standard calibers or 3+1 in magnum calibers – that can be loaded either by pushing the cartridges through the ejection port into the magazine or by reloading the magazine conventionally.

Instead of a traditional safety switch, it features a manual cocking mechanism positioned at the action tang which must be pushed forward to cock the gun and make it able to fire. The cocking lever also functions as a bolt release button. When rotated to the right the whole action can be moved to the rearmost position. In this position, the magazine can be removed easily.  Additionally, pushing the knob on the right side of the receiver fully extracts the bolt and separates the front and rear ends of the rifle.

The barrel lengths available for Krieghoff Semprio produced before 2013 are 550 mm (21.7-inch) and 635mm (25-inch).

Scope Mounts Interchangeable With Krieghoff Semprio

Rifles That Have One-Piece Scope Mounts Interchangeable With Krieghoff Semprio

For one-piece scope mounts to fit on a rifle, mounting surfaces on these rifles must match in every dimension.

Rifles That Have Two-Piece Scope Mounts Interchangeable With Krieghoff Semprio

To meet interchangeability conditions, two-piece scope mounts must match in all dimensions except the B distance. B distance can vary because two-piece scope mounts can be installed and adjusted closer or further apart.

Unfortunately, we currently lack information regarding interchangeable scope mounts for the Krieghoff Semprio rifle, manufactured before 2013. Should you have any additional information regarding possible mount matches, please contact us. We would gladly accept your help and expand our database accordingly.

Please be informed that alternatively, the tip-off grooves can be used for mounting purposes instead of holes, making tip-off mounts interchangeable between the two versions of Semprio (manufactured before and after 2013).
