Weihrauch HW 66

The History of Weihrauch

The company was founded in 1899 by Hermann Weihrauch the German town of Zella-Mehlis where many other notable gun producers such as Walther and Anschütz had their headquarters. They quickly gained a reputation for making great hunting guns and also air rifles.

In the 1950s, the same-named son of Hermann Weihrauch is establishing a reputation as a talented gun manufacturer. Hermann Weihrauch Junior introduced the Weihrauch HW35 in 1955. It is the company's biggest success and has been continuously produced to this day. All Weihrauch air rifles still come with the "Rekord" two-stage sporting trigger, which is still available in its initial form.

The owner of Weihrauch had a close connection with the owners of Beeman Precision Airguns, which led to a collaboration and production of their rifle Beeman R1 or Weihrauch HW80, which became the best-selling sporting air rifle. The sudden passing of Hans Weihrauch, Sr. on April 3, 1990, tempered the immense optimism of that phase of the company's expansion. Stefan and Hans-Hermann, along with Christel, his wife, took control of the business.

Weihrauch HW 66 Rifle Review

Weihrauch HW 66 is one of Weihrauch's small bore repeaters with the same technical details as the Weihrauch HW 60. The difference lies in a different barrel and the lack of open sights in this model. The newest version of this rifle is the Product version or simply HW 60 P. Its action features a robust bolt with a red cocking indicator on its back. Numerous airguns and traditional rifles have been equipped with the Rekord trigger, which was always regarded as being ahead of its time. This rifle is no exception.

A screw that is situated right beneath the trigger itself allows the user to quickly modify it to their liking. The safety catch is in form of a sliding lever located behind the bolt handle that operates quietly. The typical capacity is five cartridges, while an eight-shot variant is obtainable. Behind the magazine, a release catch secures it firmly in place while facilitating easy withdrawal.  Apart from the .222 Rem. this rifle uses rimmed ammunition, the most common one being the .22 LR.

Weihrauch HW 66 comes with an 11 mm dovetail and four tapped holes, two on the front and two on the rear mounting surface. The rifle's barrel is 560 mm (22-inches) long, while its overall length is 1040 - 1045 mm (40.9-inches to 41.1-inches).
