About the Heym

HEYM was founded in 1865, in Suhl, Germany, by Friedrich Wilhelm Heym. Throughout its history, the company has encountered many hardships. These include economic crises, the Nazi regime, and the post-WW II occupation of Germany. Consequently, it has changed its location more than once. Despite that, the Heym brand remains deeply respected and its guns widely admired.

As early as 1891, HEYM manufactured and patented the first hammerless drilling, a three-barreled hunting rifle with three triggers and three hammers on the same axis. Afterwards, the company began to expand, producing drillings, shotguns, and over and under rifle-shotgun combinations. They predominantly exported their products to Russia and the USA. In 1920, the company began producing Anson & Deeley Drillings, double rifle drillings, three trigger drillings, double rifles, and rifle shotgun combination guns.

After World War II, HEYM made a fresh start in the American part of divided Germany. There, the company manufactured products such as cuckoo clocks, slide rules, and spinning wheels since the ownership and making of guns were not allowed. HEYM restored its primary activity in 1952 when the revised laws again allowed the ownership and making of certain hunting and sporting guns.

In 1998, the owner of the company became Thomas Wolkmann. The company's name was first changed to HEYM Waffenfabrik GmbH (Limited), and then in 2007 to the present name, HEYM AG.

Heym SR 30 Rifle Review

HEYM's firearms are hand-made and well-known for their exquisite quality. In 1998, HEYM introduced SR 30, a rifle known for having one of the best straight-pull bolt designs. Because a straight-pull rifle action is fast, it needs an easy safety mechanism. HEYM has brilliantly achieved this by a three-position bolt system: half-cock position (100°), where both the bolt and its ball-bearing are locked in place; the 85° position where the safety is released (the firing pin and trigger mechanism are set); and the final position which happens after firing when the user pulls the bolt handle back (ball bearings are retracted, the cartridge is ejected from the action).

The bolt is straight, allowing low scope-mounting. The length of the bolt is the same regardless of the caliber. The top of SR 30's action is rounded, with two mounting holes on both mounting surfaces.

Which Rifles Have Interchangeable Mounts

One-piece mounts

The necessary condition for rifles to have one-piece mounts interchangeable, is that the mounting surfaces of these rifles match in every dimension, but no other rifle has the same receiver dimension as the SR 30.

Two-piece mounts

For two-piece mounts to be interchangeable, the mounting surfaces of the rifles must match in every dimension, except the action length (dimension B in the image above), which can vary. The only case of a rifle which has interchangeable mounts with SR 30 is Heym’s older model SR 21.

Our recommendation for mounts

Fixed mounts

MAK is the only company that produces fixed mounts for the SR 30, but these MAKfix rings are well made, so this choice is a no-brainer for someone who wants quality fixed mounts.

Detachable repeatable mounts

If one prefers to have a detachable repeatable mount, the most popular group of these kind of mounts are pivot mounts and the company EAW offers an excellent example of a pivot mount for SR 30.

Picatinny rails

If one wants to buy a Picatinny rail before mounting a scope mount to expand the mounting possibilities, EAW also offers a magnificent Picatinny rail.

Help us build our riflescope mounts database

If you happen to own this or any other rifle, we would appreciate it if you could help us expand our database by sending us some photos of the rifle receiver (the bare mounting surface of the rifle without the mounts installed). For your help, our company offers a fair return in terms of practical rewards
