The History of Unique

Unique is a French company that played a significant role in the country's extensive small-arms industry. Founded by José Uria in 1923 as Uria & Arenas Frères in Béhobie, it evolved into the Manufacture d'Armes of the French Pyrenees (MAPF) by 1928, relocating its operations to Hendaye.

Throughout its history, Unique worked alongside prominent state factories such as Manufacture d'Armes de St Etienne (MAS), Manufacture d'Armes de Bayonne (MAB), and Manufacture des Machines du Haunt-Rhin, contributing to the French industry's growth and reputation. The company operated as a family enterprise until 2001. During this time, it consistently combined traditional craftsmanship with innovative production techniques. This balance allowed Unique to introduce several recognizable firearms, such as the Model Dioptra Sporter, Model T UIT Standard, the Model MT/SM Silhouette, and TGC Centerfire which were well accepted for their precision in the world of hunting bolt action firearms.

In the post-2001 era, the brand saw another transition as FMR acquired the factory. Under the new leadership, they introduced the Unique-RS1, which was well-received in international shooting disciplines.

Today, the company primarily features rifle parts on their website, allowing users to customize their RS-1 rifle. Options include a variety of calibers, stock configurations, handguards, triggers, and more. Beyond custom builds, Unique also lists four complete RS-1 versions for purchase. Unfortunately, the details about the company’s history are sparse in the English-speaking world, though some insight can be gleaned from examining its array of handgun products.

Unique Model TGC Centerfire Rifle Review

Unique Model TGC is a bolt action hunting rifle that was manufactured by the French Arms company Unique. The rifle featured a classic Monte Carlo-style wooden stock with checkered pistol grip and forend. Additionally, left hand stocks were also available. Some models were equipped with a height-adjustable cheekpiece and front ramp and bead along with an adjustable rear hunting sight.

The receivers on TGC Models are made of high-grade steel and come with either dovetailed grooves on the sides or drilled and tapped holes which can be used for scope mounting purposes. Out of the factory, the rifles came with a 609 mm (24-ich) long barrel that could be easily swapped out for use with different cartridges.

On the right side of the receiver, directly behind the bolt handle, is a safety lever. The bolt can be unlocked and withdrawn; however, the safety lever prevents the trigger from working. A detachable magazine on the TGCs can hold either 3 magnum or 5 standard rounds. The rear end of the stock features a thick rubber recoil pad.

Unfortunately, there is a limited amount of information available on the TGC model as the rifles were not manufactured in great numbers.

The rifle can be chambered for the following calibers:

.243 Win.
.270 Win.
7mm-08 Rem.
7mm Rem. Mag.
.308 Win.
.30-06 Spr.
.300 Win. Mag.

To meet interchangeability conditions, two-piece mounts must match in all dimensions except the B distance. B distance can vary because two-piece mounts can be installed and adjusted closer or further apart.
