Fabarm Dual AL

The History of Fabarm

Fabarm was founded around 1900 by one of the historic Italian families, the Galesi family. Fabarm stands for Fabbrica Bresciana di Armi, which translates to Arms Manufacturer in Brescia. The company first produced side-by-side shotguns and pistols, but it experienced its main growth after World War II when it expanded its repertoire to include over and under shotguns and other types of weapons.

In the 1950s Fabarm started to produce compressed air rifles and even 9 mm Flauber carabines, but it was in the 1960s when the company introduced its first semi-automatic “Goldmatic” shotgun that arguably changed the course of Fabarm since it is now primarily known for the quality of its semi-auto shotguns.

It was in the 1970s, though, when Fabarm reached its first peak. The company further expanded, and it now included competitive over & under shotguns. The main one was the new STL shotgun that ended up winning several rewards and accolades. It was also in the 70s when the ELLEGI model was introduced, a semi-automatic shotgun operating on a gas mechanism that saw great success in Europe.

In 1979 the company’s CEO Luciano Galesi retired after what could be considered a successful and fruitful run at the head of the Fabarm company. Soon after Galesi’s retirement, Fabarm relocated to a more spacious work environment in Travagliato, only a few kilometers to the west of Brescia. This didn’t affect the company’s direction, though, as it remained focused on producing high-quality semi-automatic shotguns, pump-action shotguns, as well as break-barrel shotguns. What followed, however, was a period of long-lasting and lucrative business agreements that elevated the company to new heights. Fabarm started presenting itself at international firearm exhibitions and other events, and it made use of then-modern marketing techniques that resulted in up to 3000 units sold on a monthly basis.

Today, Fabarm’s flagships are the semi-automatic shotgun Lion H35 Titan and the over & under Axis shotgun, presented in 2004 and 2005 respectively. Furthermore, in 2008 Fabarm presented XLR 5 (stands for Extra Long Range), yet another semi-automatic shotgun, but it featured weaver grooves – a feature that later became the standard for Fabarm’s shotguns. XLR 5 saw some upgrades in 2012 when the XLR 5 Velocity was introduced. The latter was used by an American competitive shooter John Yeiser on the 7th of November 2013 when he set a new world record for the fastest time to shoot 25 American trap clay targets (64.14 seconds), the record that still holds to this day.

In 2014 Fabarm launched its new Professional line. It was designed to target a whole new market of professionals, and it proposes a completely new vision of the pump-action shotgun. The Fabarm Professional is centered around its base model, the STF/12.  Since its introduction, Fabarm shotguns became relatively common among Special Forces, military, law enforcement, etc.

Fabarm Dual AL Rifle Review

Fabarm Dual AL is an over & under combination gun specifically designed to suit the traditional European hunters. It can be used in multiple hunting conditions and environments, and it has a lot to offer both in the practical and visual departments. There are two variants of the rifle: Dual AL and Dual AL Combo. The latter comes with a spare 12x12 Ga barrel that features a full-length rib on the top. Overall, Fabarm Dual AL is a great choice for most hunters, and it offers an excellent price/quality ratio.

Fabarm Dual AL features a combination of two barrels. The top, 12 gauge drilled barrel uses superb INNER HP choke tubes, and it is combined with the cold-hammer-forged rifled barrel. The latter is made in Suhl, Germany, and it is a product of Fabarm’s long-lasting business partnership with one of the most experienced German barrel manufacturers.  The barrel of Dual AL is 630 mm (24.8-inch) long, and it features a fixed iron sight at the front of the barrel and an adjustable sight at the end of it. Dual AL Combo, however, comes with a spare 12x2 gauge barrel that is either 710 or 760 mm long (28- or 30-inch respectively) and has a full-length rib at the top. Since the barrels can be easily swapped at any time the Dual AL Combo is truly one of the most versatile rifles you can take to the woods for the traditional way of hunting. Regardless of the variant, though, Dual AL features 2 direct-type triggers. The front trigger fires the bottom (rifled) barrel while the rear trigger fires the top 12-gauge barrel.

The barrel is opened by the lever found at the top of the rifle’s tang. It needs to be pushed in the direction away from the shooter, and it then automatically jumps back into its original position once the barrel is closed. There is also a safety catch on the tang, and it can be found below the top lever. Dual AL is set to safe mode when the catch is moved to the rear, in the direction of the buttstock.

Fabarm Dual AL features a high-strength aluminum alloy action with a titanium finish on the receiver. The latter is the same as on the Fabarm Asper 2 and has the same scope mounting surface as some of the Merkel rifles, which makes it almost unique. It has 4 horizontal notches on the sides, 2 on each side, and a recoil notch at the top. The 12x12 gauge barrel that comes with the Dual AL Combo variant, however, comes without a mounting surface.

The beautiful wooden pistol stock of Dual AL features a checkered pattern on both sides of the rifle and it has an easily removable forend. The rifle ends in a straight buttstock with a recoil pad attached to it.

Fabarm Dual AL Calibers

Fabarm Dual AL has two barrels. The top one is always chambered for 12 gauge, while the bottom one is rifled and can be chambered for various calibers. The correct caliber is marked on the right side of the barrel. The calibers that Fabarm Dual AL can be chambered for are:

  • 12M/7x57R

  • 12M/.30-06 Spring.

  • 12M/30r Blaser

  • 12M/8x57 JRS

  • 12M/9.3x74R

Fabarm Dual AL Variants

Fabarm Dual AL Combo is the only Dual AL variant. The only difference between the two variants is that the Combo one comes with a spare 12x12 gauge barrel.

  • Fabarm Dual AL Combo

Fabarm Dual AL comes with a unique scope mounting surface. The latter is placed directly on the barrel and consists of four side notches and a recoil notch on the top.

Scope Mounts Interchangeable with Fabarm Dual AL

Rifles That Have One-Piece Scope Mounts Interchangeable with Fabarm Dual AL Rifle

The necessary condition for rifles to have one-piece scope mounts interchangeable is that the mounting surfaces of these rifles match in every dimension. Only a few rifles match the unique mounting surface of the Fabarm Dual AL, though. Rifles that have one-piece scope mounts interchangeable with Fabarm Dual AL are the following:

Rifles That Have Two-Piece Scope Mounts Interchangeable with Fabarm Dual AL Rifle

For two-piece scope mounts to be interchangeable, the mounting surfaces of the rifles must match in every dimension except the action length which can vary. This is because the distance between the two pieces of the mount is not fixed. Due to the specific dimensions of the scope mounting surface, though, Fabarm Dual AL currently does not share any two-piece mounts with other rifles.
