Savage Model 11 (round-back)

Disclaimer: This page is dedicated to the Savage Model 11 with a round-back receiver (Round-Back).

_______________________

Savage Model 11 is basically just a variant of the Savage Model 10 with a few extra features, which itself is just a short-action version of the famous Model 110.

This is due to Savage’s decision in the late 1970s or early 1980s when they decided to introduce a numbering system to easily differentiate between the several variants of their now-famous Savage Model 110. Numbers 111, 112, 114, and 116 were gradually launched, and each of them signified a certain feature of the base model. For instance, Savage Model 110 with an American walnut stock suddenly became Savage Model 114; the Model 110 with a stainless-steel barrel became Model 116, and so on, but they were still essentially just Model 110 variants. This is true for both short-action and long-action configurations.

Scope Mounts for Savage Model 10 will also fit on the Savage Model 11, but you need to pay attention to the shape of the receiver. Your variant of Model 110 can have a flat mounting surface at the back of the receiver or a rounded one. Scope mounts for flat-back receivers will not fit on rounded receivers and vice versa.

You can read more about The Difference Between Flat-Back and Round-Back Savage Model 110, but to put it simply: if your variant of Savage Model 110 was made before 2003, it has a flat-back receiver. If it was manufactured after 2003, it has a round-back receiver.

Best Scope Mounts for Savage Model 11 (Round-Back)

There is another thing we need to mention before you buy a scope mount for your Savage Model 11.

Up to recently, every Savage Model 110, short-action or long-action and regardless of the variant, was tapped for #6-48 screws. However, some of the newer variants have the receiver drilled and tapped for larger diameter #8-40 screws.

This is something to keep in mind only if you have a Model 110 variant that was made after 2020, in which case we kindly ask you to choose the correct SCREW SIZE before ordering a scope mount. You will find the drop-down menu on the right side of the product’s image, above the price.

Picatinny Rails for Savage Model 11 (Round-Back)

By far the easiest way to avoid any troubles with the diameter of the screws on the round-back Savage Model 11 is to make use of the EGW Picatinny Rail. Since September 2021, EGW is drilling these rails to accommodate both the #8-40 and #6-48 screws. The head diameter on the #6-48 screws provided with this mount is larger than on EGW’s normal #6-48 screws, which is a rather simple yet very effective solution to the problem.

The buyers get both types of screws included when they purchase the mount.
