Anschutz 1574

The History of Anschutz

On the first of July in 1856, the son of the master gunsmith Johann Heinrich Gottlieb Anschütz, Julius Gottfried Anschütz founded the company J.G. ANSCHÜTZ in Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia. Forty years later, they relocated from the small workshop to their first factory with 76 employees. The founder of the J.G. ANSCHÜTZ company passed away in 1901. His sons Fritz and Otto took over their father's work. The latter died in 1923. The company was continued by Fritz August Anschütz supported by his two sons Max Fritz and Rudolf Charles Anschütz, the third ANSCHÜTZ generation. The factory was closed down and then destroyed and seized after the war.

1950 was the year of a fresh start in the Danube Bastion in Ulm where the company J.G. ANSCHÜTZ GmbH was founded. 7 people and 20 machines initially handled air pistols and gun repairs; afterward, Flobert rifles (rimfire rifles) and Match rifles were added. After the first sport shooting success, further successes came one after the other. Max Schmeling, a former boxing champion, also competed for Germany on the clay pigeon shooting national team. He was familiar with ANSCHÜTZ rifles because he was a target shooter and a hunter. He purchased some of them in Ulm and even suggested a change in the company's logo.

Dieter Anschütz, a member of the fourth generation, took over management in 1968 and proved himself as a good leader. The catchphrase "DIE MEISTER MACHER" was born out of the achievements of the ANSCHÜTZ target actions across the globe. It still holds true today. As managing director since 1992, Jochen Anschütz continues to administer the company with the aid of his son.

Anschutz 1574 Rifle Review

Anschutz 1574 is a bolt-action rifle made for a variety of short-action calibers. It is basically a mix of the Krico Model 600's action and Anschutz's stock.

The bolt has two locking lugs that lock into the receiver. It can be easily taken down without using any tools due to its simplistic design. While the rifle was being produced, customers were given a choice of either a conventional single trigger or the newer double trigger system. The double trigger system uses the rear trigger as the set trigger, meaning it majorly decreases the pull weight of the front trigger, which is then used to fire the rifle.

Anschutz 1574 receiver comes with four pre-tapped holes for mounting purposes, two in the front and two in the rear mounting surface.

Repeatable mounts take all advantages of detachable mounts to a new level. All the advantages of detachable mounts, which are:

  • Detachable mounts offer possibility to use multiple scopes on one rifle,
  • enable easy transportation of the scope and the rifle separately,
  • in an emergency if the scope fails you can immediately detach it and use iron sights are upgraded with,
  • 100% repeatability, which means that you zero all your scopes only once and then you can use them on one rifle in any combination you prefer and as many times as you wish.

Such mounts are ideal for hunting rifles, where you can use the same rifles with different optics on many different types of hunts. The perfect combination of different optics on one rifle can be described in this fashion:

  • Red dot sight or wide angle riflescope for driven hunts,
  • 1.5-6x42 or similar for stalking,
  • 3-12x56 for low light hunting.

You can add as many different optics to this setup as you wish, since this is the main concept of repeatable mounts. Easy transportation of optics and rifle separately is only an additional bonus.

There are however many different types of repeatable mounts, of which the most common are:

There are also many other similar repeating mounts.
