Monoculars

Designed to be small, lightweight and thus as easy to carry wherever you go, the range of Vortex Solo monoculars are an inexpensive option ideal for a wide range of outdoor pursuits, be that hiking or backpacking, to birding, wildlife observation as well as hunting.

Important Features

As well as being both compact and lightweight, all Solo monoculars have a tough rubber armor exterior to improve grip and improve protection to the optics inside the chassis. The chassis itself is also O-ring sealed to provide extra protection against moisture and dust. Added to this, the nitrogen filled interior also prevents the internal glass surfaces from fogging up during rapid temperature fluctuations and thus enables these monoculars to be used and carried about even in the worst of weather conditions. All Vortex Solo monoculars have an adjustable twist-up eyecup that enables you to adjust the eye relief and so are able to accommodate users who wear glasses. The focus ring is positioned just below the eyepiece and its smooth action allows for simple and accurate focal adjustments.

Optical Properties

With the choice of an 8x or 10x magnification, the Vortex Solo comes with the option of a mid-sized 36mm or the very small 25mm objective lens. The larger lens obviously results in a slightly larger monocular, but the advantage is that you get a brighter image, which will be especially noticeable in poorer light conditions. The Solo is Fully Multi-Coated with special anti-reflective material on all lens surfaces which results in higher light transmission levels and thus delivers a brighter, higher quality image than alternatives with less of these coatings. The use of Schmidt-Pechan Roof prisms to correct the inverted image ensures that the most compact body shape is maintained. The R/T version of the Solo Monocular also comes with a heads-up range finding reticle in the display that incorporates the MRAD-based subtensions that also have a number of different sized silhouettes that enable you to work out the range of an object more quickly without the need to make any mathematical calculations.

Accessories

All Vortex Solo monoculars come supplied with a lanyard designed to go around your neck in a similar way to the neck strap on a binocular. Not that the 36mm versions also have a utility carry clip fixed onto the side of the body. This is very useful and makes it possible to attach the device to your belt, webbing or backpack for quick access as well as a secure way to carry. Each Solo monocular also comes with a protective pouch, instructions and a cleaning cloth.
