Vortex Viper HST (Hunting Shooting Tactical) rifle scopes are variable magnification rifle scopes designed for sports shooters and hunters. These rifle scopes have the best features of the very popular hunting rifle scopes Vortex Viper HSV, and the best features of the tactical rifle scopes Vortex Viper PST. From the outside, these rifle scopes are very identical to their tactical line, the Vortex Viper PST.

The main difference is that the HST rifle scopes have a different reticle, named VMR-1, which can be ordered in MRAD or in MOA. The reticle is placed in the second focal plane, so it has the same dimensions on all magnifications. On a given magnification the reticle can be also used for calculating the distance to the target, reading corrections or even shooting without making clicks. On the Viper HST 4-16x50 model, this is possible at the maximal magnification, on the Viper HST 6-24x50 model, the magnification has to be on 18x.

The turrets are exposed tactical for quick and easy elevation and windage adjustments. Both rifle scopes feature also a side parallax adjustment turret for focusing on targets at different distances. The elevation turret has also a zero-stop, which can be adjusted with Customizable Rotational Stop (CRS) Shims. Another big difference compared to the Viper PST line is in the reticle, which is non-illuminated.

The Vortex Viper HST rifle scopes are also a little bit lighter in weight compared to the Vortex Viper PST line. The main tube has a diameter of 30 millimeters, so many mounting solutions are available for any kind of weapon platform. The finish of the scope is matte black, which is hard-anodized on the one-piece aluminum tube. The one-piece aluminum tube gives the rifle scope more strength and reliability in tough conditions. Thanks to the O-ring sealing all Viper HST rifle scopes are waterproof, and the internal of those scopes is filled with Argon gas to prevent internal fogging at cold temperatures.

In the Vortex Viper HST only XD™ (Extra-low Dispersion) Lens elements are used, which increase the color fidelity and the resolution of the image. All lenses are XR™ fully multi-coated to increase the light transmission and contrast. The outer lens have also an additional coating named ArmorTek, which makes the surface harder for more scratch-resistance and protection against oil and dirt.
