Contessa Picatinny Rail for Anschütz 64 Product description

About Picatinny Rail

The Picatinny rail system features slots spaced at precise 5.23 mm intervals, enabling consistent and versatile use along its entire length. This system is designed for ease of mounting and is universally compatible; accessories designed for a Picatinny rail will fit seamlessly, irrespective of the manufacturer or the date of production. Known for its affordability, durability, and reliability, the Picatinny rail is a popular choice among professionals and military personnel, making it a dominant player in the scope mounts market in recent years.
The Picatinny design marks a significant advancement over the older Weaver standard. Unlike the Weaver system, which offers only a few predetermined slots, the Picatinny rail boasts continuous slots across its surface. This feature provides the flexibility to mount devices at any preferred location. Additionally, the slots on a Weaver rail are narrower, at 3.8 mm, allowing mounts designed for Weaver rails to fit on a Picatinny rail. However, mounts specifically made for Picatinny rails do not fit on Weaver rails due to the size difference of recoil stoppers. This compatibility and versatility make the Picatinny rail a superior mounting solution in various applications.

About the Anschutz

Founded in 1856 by Julius Gottfried Anschütz in Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia, Anschütz started as a small workshop. Under the leadership of the Anschütz family, it grew into a major firearm manufacturer. The company relocated to a larger factory after World War II. A new beginning was marked in 1950 in Ulm, where J.G. ANSCHÜTZ GmbH was established, specializing in Match rifles, which achieved considerable sport shooting success.

About the 64 (dovetail)

The Anschutz 64 rifle, a bolt-action .22 LR target rifle, was developed in collaboration between American Savage Arms and German Anschutz in the 1960s. This model is recognized for its medium-heavy barrel, measuring 660 millimeters (26 inches) in length, and features a target style stock with a checkered pistol grip and contoured thumb groove. The rifle is equipped with an Anschutz Match Sight Set for precision shooting, and the receiver features an 11 mm dovetail for scope mounting. It also includes a manual safety lever on the right side of the receiver behind the bolt handle.

Design of the Rail

The Contessa Picatinny Rail for Anschütz 64 is constructed from steel, known for its superior hardness and durability compared to aluminum, ensures a higher degree of repeatability with less wear over time. The picatinny rail features 14 slots. A distinct central canal on the rail allows for the concurrent use of the rifle's iron sights, offering a reliable backup sighting solution without the need to remove the picatinny rail when there is nothing mounted on it. This picatinny rail is attached to the rifle with 11 mm dovetail.

This rail can also be mounted on:

Usually, a Picatinny rail can be mounted on multiple different rifles if they share the same mounting surface, which we commonly refer to as the mounting standard. The Contessa Picatinny Rail for Anschütz 64 can be mounted on all rifles with 11 mm dovetail, either rounded or flat.

Mounting Instructions

Remove all the stains (grease, oil etc.) from the rifle's receiver with a cleaning fluid (acetone). Once the surface is clean and dry, check whether the screws match the rail and the holes on the receiver. Before mounting the rail permanently, apply a minimal amount of thread-locking fluid 278 or 648 on screws. Be careful not to get the fluid in or near the mounting holes. Carefully clean the remaining excess fluid around the rail with a cleaning fluid. Using a torque driver, screw the screws appropriately (up to 3 Nm/26.5 in-lbs).
If you require any mounting tools, you can find them on our Rifle Scope Mounting Tools page.

Dear Martin,

thank you for contacting us.

You are entirely correct. This Picatinny rail will slide onto the receiver of the 11 mm rail, once set, you use the two screws to tighten them onto the receiver of the rifle (no drilling required).

I have an Anschutz M64LR and 1516WMR. I'd like to buy the correct scope mounting for both. I believe a pic mount is proper. For scopes, I'm leaning towards a Luopold or Sworovski 40mm-50mm. Currently, the M64 has the original dioptic front and rear sitting on the standard 11mm dovetail (rear). It also has 1.25"dovetail mounts drilled and tapped on the barrel beginning at 3/4" and 8" back to front. The 1516WMR has the rear 11mm dovetail on the receiver. It has two dovetails cut into the rear and end of the barrel.

Hello, does the Conessa Picatinny also fit the 1516? Leupold : VX-3HD 4.5-14X40 Leupold: VX-3i 3.5-10×50 Swarovsky: Z3 4-12x50 Vortex: Viper HS 2.5-10x44 I'd like to get the Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-15x42 Any recommendations? Is side focus that important at 100 yards...or 200+ yards on another riffle?

by Rick

This rail should also fit the 1516 model as it has an 11mm round-type dovetail. Please note that hunters usually shoot at distances between 50m and 150m, therefore the parallax is not necessary, but it is a must for target shooting. We would be delighted to assist you in finding the best product to suit your needs. To help us assist you further, please contact us at info@optics-trade.eu and let us know which price range you are interested in.

We look forward to hearing from you.
