The History of Nosler

Nosler is an American company, primarily known for their high-quality bullet production. It was established in 1948 by John Amos Nosler who got the inspiration for the company from a bad hunting experience in 1946 that led him to design a bullet that could expand efficiently at various impact velocities while maintaining its structure. The innovation resulted in the development of the first Partition bullet, tested in 1947. Following his experimentation with the design, John decided on a dual-core design which he started using in his personal hunting soon after.

By 1948, this led to the start of a Bullet Company in Ashland, Oregon. As the years progressed, the company expanded its production facilities, and by 1969, the Nosler Partition Bullet Co. transitioned its name to Nosler Bullets, Inc. Bullet production remained at the core of the company's business, leading to the introduction of several products like the Zipedo, Solid Base, and Ballistic Tip bullets. In 1990, another rebranding occurred, renaming the company to Nosler Inc. They also engaged in business collaborations, such as the partnership with Winchester in 1997 which led to the creation of Combined Technology® (CT®) bullets.

In 2004 the company created the Nosler Custom brand, and two years later, in 2006, they launched their first rifle, the Model 48. While the company primarily continued to put its focus on bullets production, their product line expanded significantly. As of 2023 their offer consists of various sorts of ammunition, bullets, cases, suppressors, firearms and more. Furthermore, in the recent years leading up to 2023, Nosler also added limited edition and semi-custom-built rifles to their offer.

Nosler M48 SA Rifle Review

The Nosler M48 SA is a bolt action, push feed rifle made by Nosler. The M48 model was first introduced by the company in 2006. It is available in ultra lightweight stock which is made of fully synthetic material with a sporter-style cheekpiece and a soft rubber recoil pad. The action houses a vent-body bolt with six shallow flutes and two locking lugs that lock up safely with the action housing.

The M48 SA employs a large claw extractor and plunger ejector system for round ejection. The free-floating barrels are hand-lapped and come at a length of 610 mm (24-inch). The rifle comes with a Timney adjustable trigger assembly set at a factory pull weight of approximately 1134 g (2.5 lbs). On the rear upper end of the receiver, behind the bolt handle, there is a two-position safety system that comes in the form of a lever. The forward position allows the rifle to fire, while the rear position sets it on "Safe". The bolt release knob is placed on the left side of the receiver and a top-loading 3- or 4-round internal box magazine accessible through the hinged floor plate.

Because of the popularity of the Remington 700 bases among users, the model 48 was designed to incorporate any two-piece model 700 bases so it allows users a variety of different scope mounts options to choose from.
