The History of Sturm, Ruger & Co.

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc., more commonly known as Ruger, is an American firearm manufacturing company headquartered in Southport, Connecticut. Founded in 1949 by Alexander McCormick Sturm and William B. Ruger in a rented machine shop in Connecticut, the company has since become one of the largest firearm manufacturers in the world - shadowed only by Remington and perhaps Smith & Wesson.

Ruger is widely recognized for producing firearms that span a broad spectrum of uses such as bolt-action rifles and pistols, semi-automatic rifles, single-shot rifles, shotguns, and revolvers. As recognition of its quality products grew so did the public’s interest in investing in the company’s shares. Ruger went public in 1969 and grew exponentially since then, and it is on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE:RGR) since 1990.

In 2020, Ruger made another big move with their acquisition of Marlin Firearms from Remington Outdoor Company.

For decades now both newbie and seasoned shooters have been consistently trusting Ruger’s guns for their excellent accuracy and superior long-term performance as evidenced by its continued success over all these years.

Today, Ruger’s most popular products include the Ruger 10/22 semiautomatic rifle, the .22 rimfire semi-automatic pistol Ruger MK IV, the bolt-action Ruger American rifle, the tried and tested Ruger No.1, and, of course, the timeless Ruger Security-Six revolvers.

Ruger Precision Rifle Review

Ruger Precision Rifle was introduced in 2015. It is a bolt-action rifle marketed as “highly configurable” weapon, offering outstanding accuracy and long-range capabilities. It employs an in-line recoil path that runs straight from the rear of the receiver to the buttstock, effectively eliminating the requirement for conventional bedding or a "chassis" system. This streamlines the rifle's response to recoil and allows for maximum accuracy potential.

The cold hammer-forged barrel is free-floated and is made from 4140 chrome-moly steel. It features 5R rifling for minimum bullet upset, further adding to the rifle’s accuracy. The barrel is also threaded and ready for various muzzle accessories such as suppressors and comes with a thread protector. The handguard that wraps it is made of aluminum and features Magpul M-LOK slots on all four sides. The barrel length ranges from 508 mm to 660 mm (20 to 26 inches, respectively).

With its adjustable length of pull and comb height, the Ruger® Precision MSR stock provides a secure fit for a variety of shooter sizes. The comb height adjustments and length of pull adjustments may be made with ease, yet they lock firmly in place and will not move when firing. Other features of the stock include several QD sling connection points, a bottom Picatinny rail for mounting a monopod, and a comfortable rubber buttpad. The buttstock can be folded to the side if needed.

The rifle also features the Ruger Marksman AdjustableTM trigger. Its pull weight can be adjusted from 1.13 kg to 2.25 kg (2.25 to 5.0 pounds), and it breaks nicely and comfortably. If you unscrew the bolt shroud, you will find a hey wrench that you can use to adjust the pull weight.

Ruger Precision Rifle is also strong in the safety department. It has an ambidextrous safety selector on both sides of the rifle. It is easily accessible and in an optimal position for fast and speedy operation. It also features a Multi-Magazine Interface that allows both front-latching AI-style magazines and side-latching M110/SR25/DPMS/Magpul magazines. They can be used interchangeably, and the purchased rifle comes with two 10-round Magpul PMAG magazines.

The action is of the push-feed style and hosts a three-lug bolt with a 70-degree bolt throw. The bolt runs smoothly and operates with ease, just as you would expect from such a formidable rifle. On top of that, the bolt handle is oversized for better bolt operation, but since shooters have different preferences, the bolt handle on Ruger Precision Rifle can be easily replaced. To top it all off, the receiver on top of the action is fitted with a 20- or 30-MOA Picatinny rail which greatly expands the scope mounting possibilities.
