The History of Accuracy International

Accuracy International was founded in the UK in 1978 by Malcolm Cooper, a British Olympic medalist in shooting, and Sarah Cooper, his wife. The company was established with the aim of creating a high-precision rifle that would meet the needs of competitive target shooters and military snipers alike. In 1982, they introduced their first rifle, the AI Arctic Warfare rifle. The rifle's accuracy and reliability made it a favorite of military and law enforcement agencies around the world. In the 1980s and 1990s, AI continued to refine and expand its product line, developing new models like the AW50 and the AWM (Arctic Warfare Magnum). These rifles were designed to meet the needs of different users, from military snipers to police SWAT teams.

In the early 2000s, AI secured a contract to supply rifles to the British Armed Forces, cementing its reputation as a supplier of high-quality military equipment. The company's rifles were used by British forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, where they earned a reputation for their accuracy and reliability. AI continued to expand its product line, offering rifles for civilian use, as well as law enforcement and military applications. Today, AI is known for its commitment to precision, quality, and reliability, and its rifles are widely used by military and law enforcement agencies around the world.

The company has always been focused on developing new technologies and refining existing ones to create rifles that are even more accurate, reliable, and durable. Accuracy International AT308 Rifle Review

The Accuracy International AT308 is a bolt-action precision rifle designed for the short-action .308 Winchester cartridge and a successor of the AW308 model. The rifle is equipped with a proofed steel push-feed action that is bonded and bolted to an aluminum chassis. The action features AI's Quickloc - quick release barrel system, which makes it easy to change the barrel if necessary.

The rifle's 20 MOA STANAG 4694 / Mil Std 1913 receiver and forend rail provide the necessary versatility to mount various accessories such as scopes, bipods, and other equipment. The AT308's bolt is a six-locking-lug, 60-degree opening angle design with AI's combat-proven leaf spring extractor. The rifle also includes a 3-position safety that is easy to operate and helps ensure safe handling in all conditions. The two-stage trigger is adjustable for trigger weight between 1500 and 2000 g (3.3 and 4.4 lbs), which allows for precise control of the rifle.

The rifle features a detachable 10-round double-stack magazine. Additionally, it can be loaded through the ejection port. The AT308 weighs 5800g when unloaded and equipped with a 610 mm (24 inch) barrel, which is optimal for long-range accuracy.

A Merkel Suhl Tilt-up mount is a mounting system found on Merkel repeating rifles KR1 and on their break barrel rifles like the single shot K3/K4 and at combination rifles B3/B4. This mounting solution offers great flexibility since the same mounts are used on such different types of rifles and on the other hand, it offers 100% repeatability. Other advantages are:

lightweight, small and elegant mounts,
low height of mounting, including for the scopes with rails,
very easy and straight forward handling of the mount.

This mounting system has 4 mounting grows directly on the barrel and a cross section for the recoil stopper at the top of the barrel. Mounting of riflescopes directly on the barrel offers an advantage that it is possible to change the barrel and the scope together. Merkel KR1 is a prime example where a user can have multiple barrels with multiple scopes for one rifle only. Additionally since Merkel Suhl Tilt-Up mounts offer 100% repeatability, the user can have multiple scopes on each of the barrels. This type of mounts offer true versatility.

Even though Merkel Tilt-up mounting system has 4 groves and one recoil slot, most of the mounts for red dot sights clamp only to two groves and not all four. Nevertheless these mounts also fit on all rifles with this mounting system and also provide 100% repeatability.
